Note: Gross National Product (GNP) or Gross National Income (GNI) is the value of all the goods and services produced in an economy, plus the value of the goods and services imported, less the goods and services exported. So in Ireland for example, Intel, Microsoft, etc., would all be in Irish GDP but not in Irish GNP. They would be counted in US GNP. Similarly, remittances would be in Irish GDP but reflected (if through the banking system) in Polish or Latvian GNP. For many countries there is little difference between the two but for Ireland, GDP is significantly higher. GNI/GDP is a better reflection of development.
