Millennium Development Goals Campaign

Introduction

Our Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Campaign is part of a broader MDGs focused education campaign using the MDG agenda to develop capacity among young people (aged 15-17) around research, action, peer education, lobbying, etc within a broader human rights and development education programme.

Our campaign around the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) includes lobbying visits to the United Nations in New York, institutions of the European Union, Irish, UK and Zambian governments.

To date, we have undertaken locally based workshops exploring the MDGs and engaged in lobbying workshops in parliament with politicians in Dublin and Lusaka. A group of students and some teachers will travel to New York, London, Northern Ireland, Brussels as well as Dublin to directly lobby politicians, ambassadors and the UN on MDG related issues. We have also developed large-scale public education murals (usually in busy shopping centres) on a range of development themes, developed dramas and drama based workshops with young people, etc. With the young people, we have produced an MDGs toolkit, a schools Charter and a detailed lobbying document, which the students are currently lobbying on with all members of Parliament in Ireland, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, opposition leaders, upper houses, etc.
