M.D.G. Campaign

Actions you can take

  • Petition - A petition taken in your school or local community can have a strong impact on politicians but, its not enough to have people just sign your petition, you have to raise their awareness of the issue so they can make an informed decision and share it with others.
  • Set up an interest group - there is power in numbers, join with others who feel strongly about the issues so that you can work together to achieve common goals.
  • Letter writing - all the politicians at the workshops agreed that letters were a good way of informing them about your issue - keep the letter short, polite, and, if you are organising a group campaign, individually written or typed letters have a lot more impact than letter templates.

Things to remember:

  • Always Include your name address and contact details
  • Keep a record of correspondence
  • Be polite and informed
  • An awareness raising campaign - use leaflets, surveys, meetings, workshops and events to help get local people informed and involved in your campaign.
  • Organise a forum - invite politicians to come to your school and talk to you and possibly students from other schools on a particular issue.
  • Keep the media informed - local/national newspapers and radio can do your cause a lot of good if they decide to feature your campaign.
  • Talk with others - friends, relatives, neighbours, colleagues - don't avoid talking about issues because you think others are not interested - they are often more interested than you think.
