- Students define Poverty by using images.
- Students investigate the cyclical nature of Poverty by participating in an activity to look at the causes & effects of poverty.
- Students look at the concepts of: Relative Poverty, Absolute Poverty and the Poverty Line using activities outlined in the resource list.
- Students critically examine the portrayal of Poverty by NGO posters or other media.
- Students research how Poverty is measured globally using concepts such as GNP and HDI.
- Students familiarise themselves with Africa by completing a blank map of the continent filling in as many names of countries as they can. Students identify one positive image and one cultural aspect of a particular African country.
- Students research a case study of an African country to see how the concept of cyclical poverty applies to that country.
- Students participate in a series of activities to introduce the idea poverty risks and social exclusion.
- Students research the response of governments to the issues of Poverty by examining National Anti-Poverty Strategies.
- Students look at community response to Poverty such as microcredit.
