Strand Outline: Gender


(It is essential that single-sex schools do some of this work with partner schools of the opposite sex.)

  1. Students distinguish between the words “sex” and “gender”.
  2. Students examine their own attitude to gender stereotyping.
  3. Students perceptions of gender stereotyping are challenged.
  4. Students carry out research on how gender affects their life choices.
  5. Students read case studies and discuss how gender affectes life choices/opportunities.
  6. Students consider the differences in opportunities for women.
  7. Students examine the issue of Gender-Based Violence.
  8. Students create a poster on the issue of Gender Based Violence.
  9. Students are presented with a fact-sheet on Sexual health as an introduction to case study on Female Genital Mutilation as illustrated in the film "Moolade"
  10. Students debate the issues raised in the film using the film review worksheet.
