Strand Outline: Conflict


  1. Students are introduced to the concept of Conflict by examining their personal experiences. Students then examine their school policy on anti-bullying and discuss possible resolutions through written or verbal exercises.
  2. Research how conflicts can be resolved.
  3. Raise the issue of colonisation and the resulting conflicts with students.
  4. Students should gain a more in depth knowledge of post-colonial conflict in a chosen country.
  5. Students investigate current world conflict through a series of activities and games.
  6. Students identify patterns, such as global resources and religion, around global conflict.
  7. Students review one of the films of the Rwandan Genocide in order to understand the complexity of genocide.
  8. Students research the stages of genocide.
  9. Students research the direct and indirect impact of the arms industry on development by watching “Lord of War” and using Film Review sheets.
  10. Students also study other issues related to conflict.
