Strand Outline: Sustainability


  1. Students watch a relevant film and are encouraged to comment and interpret the images presented using class discussion.
  2. Students list industries that they consider as sustainable.
  3. Students investigate non-sustainable industries and look for alternatives to these.
  4. Students look at the impact of non-sustainable practices on the global community.
  5. Students examine the difference between sustainable 'development aid' and 'emergency aid.'
  6. Students think about the use of science research to explore sustainable environment.
  7. Students are introduced to the Carbon footprint and are encouraged to devise a strategy to reduce their carbon footprint.
  8. Students research a personal/class/school lifestyle to analyse the impact each member of the community has on sustainability.
  9. Students devise a campaign to improve sustainability in their lives or community.
